I’m excited to introduce this issue of KeyNotes. Our goal for this edition is to provide news, methods and evidence that inspire you to ACT DIFFERENT and be more aggressive with your change initiatives. In today’s economic environment, avoidant behavior is much too common. There is an ever-growing fear that things could go wrong, creating an increased tendency to slow down or freeze key business decisions. However, it is exactly because of today’s economic climate that there is more opportunity than ever to do something big and potentially great.
We applaud those individuals and organizations that dare to take chances. An ideal example is our latest Trend Setter Chris Thibert, Business System Development Manager at Alcoa Engineered Products and Solutions, who has pioneered several change programs over the years. As he explains in his interview, it’s often necessary to do a great deal of “missionary work” to get people to make a change. Ongoing discussions, training, and, in many instances, intermittent disagreements are necessary to keep things moving forward. Lean tools and benchmarks are only a means for generating results, it’s the people like Chris that drive sustainable change.
So, the next time you’re faced with an opportunity to take on a new challenge and make something happen — no matter where you are in the organization — don’t stall. Instead, we challenge you to SPEED UP and take advantage of the fact that everyone else, including your competition, is abiding by their natural tendency to slow down.
